Explainability in finance

The Finance and Economics programme at The Alan Turing Institute is organising a workshop on ‘Explainability in finance’, bringing together a small group of academics and industry practitioners. The workshop will take place in the afternoon on Wednesday, 31st October at the British Library Knowledge Centre, Lecture Theatre.

Financial Services organisations are interested in adopting Deep Learning / Machine Learning in a variety of domains, but these models are not always easily explainable to regulators and other stakeholders. The more complex, ‘black box’ models require state-of-the-art tools that would give organisations the confidence and the ability to explain algorithmic decisions and outcomes. The workshop will explore the latest landscape of tools and methodologies and the potential industry use cases. The agenda includes an overview of relevant research in the field from a number of academics, followed by short talks by industry practitioners.
